On 25 October 2015, a parliament delegation of the German Bundestag, Committee on Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection, visited the GIZ project partner “Southern Regional Plant Protection Center” (SRPPC) in Tien Giang province, Vietnam. The delegation was headed by Mr. Alois Gerig, chairman of the Committee. The purpose of this visit was to exchange information about rice cultivation and aquaculture techniques in the Mekong delta area, followed by Integrated Pest Management (IPM), sustainable rice production and food safety and security.
Mr. Cao Van Hoa, Deputy Director of Tien Giang Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and leaders of SRPPC shared their views with the delegation on interested issues of agriculture production, environment, climate change, food safety and nutrition.
Mr. Ambros Dotzer, Regional Coordinator of the ASEAN Sustainable Agrifood Systems (ASEAN SAS) introduced the delegation to the IPM training project for farmers and pesticide retailers. The project is being carried through in cooperation with SRPPC and Croplife International, and is training 15.000 farmers and 300 pesticide retailers, located in the provinces Dong Thap, Hau Giang and Kien Giang.
