“Using Alternate Wetting and Drying technic is helping me reduce the investment cost. We usually use natural water for our rice farming. If we get water management well prepared, our rice will grow well. After joining the workshop to learn the four technics and transform my rice paddy. I never use chemical fertilizer to my rice farming.” Mrs. Duangjan Wichalin, a rice farmer from Ubon Ratchathani Province.
Duangjan has joined the “Better Rice Initiative Asia (BRIA)” project since 2017 and gained skills and knowledge about using four new technics to produce better Hom Mali rice. She was using chemical fertilizer to her rice long time ago. The result of overusing chemical made problem to her financial income “I had spending lots of buying chemical, but rice production was not return to an income.” She recalled her old days.
It also affected her husband’s health. He started having a difficult breathing and often get sick after using chemical fertilizer. Duangjan decided to change from the old method to the new technics under the BRIA Project with Thai Rice Department and GIZ. Since then, Duangjan’s life has changed.
“I want to see Thai people eat quality rice without any chemical because I also want to eat safe rice. I believed that if we do good management, rice can be sold itself. More importantly, I could help reduce global warming,” said Mrs. Duangjan Wichalin, rice farmer from Ubonratchathani province, Thailand who joins the “Better Rice Initiative Asia” project and uses new rice farming technics for her rice paddy to better her rice production
