Project Period: 01 January 2023 – 31 December 2025
(Coffee++)
Objective
Coffee++ aims to improve smallholder coffee farmers’ economic and environmental resilience through regenerative agriculture farming practices.
Approaches
The Coffee++ iDPP (integrated development partnership), is a joint measure between Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and one or more private companies. It is integrated into a GIZ project and contributes directly to the goals of this project. In the case of Coffee++, the iDPP is integrated in the global programme “Sustainability and Value Added in Agricultural Supply Chains”. Such partnerships are formed when the business interests of private partners and the interests of German development cooperation overlap. GIZ and the private partner(s) both contribute expertise, in-kind inputs and/or financial resources to the joint measure. The project builds on this foundation and provides producers in Côte d’Ivoire, Indonesia, Philippines, and Thailand with technical and entrepreneurial knowledge to improve incomes and climate resilience. Capacity development activities are based on new as well as proven approaches such as good agricultural practices, regenerative agriculture, farmer business school (FBS), agroforestry practices and the strengthening of farmers’ organisations. Implementation takes place through training measures in the field as well as using digital tools such as the FBS app. By building strategic partnerships with the public-, private-, and civil society, Coffee++ aims to amplify the developmental benefits beyond the scope of the project.
