Our Goals

To enhance capacity of participating farmers and other rice stakeholders, while pushing the rice farming towards the “sustainability level”. Rice productivity and net income are increased that will lift more Thai rice growers out of their debt trap.

Areas of Implementation

Ubon Ratchathani, Roi Et and Surin in Northeastern Thailand

At present, consumers are more concerned about the quality of rice, the environmental friendly farming and livelihood of farmers. Farmers, on the other hand, are still lacking knowledge about sustainable farming such as inappropriate use of production inputs. They still struggle to link globally with the sustainable and quality rice markets.

BRIA II Thailand is a follow-on measure to the first Better Rice Initiative Asia (BRIA) project. The project, with the support of Thai Rice Department and Olam International, is training farmers on adoption of sustainable practices & technology as well as better organizational management of farmer groups, which are fundamentals to link the farmers with sustainable rice value chain. The stakeholders work together to ensure the smallholder farmers comply with the Sustainable Rice Platform (SRP) standard.
