Vietnam’s rural snapshots

Over 70 per cent of the population in this S-shaped nation is farmers. Rice cultivation practice has ever been a major activity thousand years ago in the country side. The Vietnamese farmers are hard-working who despite of natural disasters, poverty, lack of facility and supports, still make Vietnam one of the biggest rice exporters in the world.

The working group of RIICE (Remote Sensing-based Information and Insurance for Crops in Emerging Economies) project has continuously recorded farmers’ activities on the fields, village’s landscape snapshots and ordinary lives in the country side, hoping the ones who have never been to Vietnam and stepped on the rice field bunds to understand how difficult the farmers here have gone through.
