GIZ Thailand and Ranong Provincial Agriculture Office recently co-organised an exhibition on climate-smart agriculture at the 45th Southern Regional Academic Conference of the Future Farmers of Thailand (FFT) under the Royal Patronage of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.
Held at Ranong College of Agriculture and Technology in Mueang Ranong District, Ranong Province, the event welcomed up to 1,400 agricultural students and 400 educators from across southern Thailand. The two-day exhibition was aimed at raising awareness on ‘regenerative agriculture’ regarded as an approach to conserve and restore agricultural land and ecosystems. By reducing atmospheric carbon and greenhouse gas emissions, the approach enhances the resilience of farming systems to climate change, improving farmers’ livelihoods and promoting harmony between humans and nature.

Ms Netphannee Singtong, Head of the Promotion and Production Development, led a team of agricultural officers from Ranong Province in presenting the exhibition. With expertise gained through the Regenerative Agriculture Training Programme, the team effectively shared skills and insights to the participants on regenerative agricultural practices.

This knowledge-transferring initiative was conducted in collaboration with the Transforming Livelihoods and Climate Resilience of Smallholder Coffee Producers through the Adoption of Regenerative Agriculture Production Systems or ‘Coffee++ Thailand’ Project, a joint effort between GIZ and Nestlé. Five farmer groups, comprising 196 smallholder coffee farmers in the region actively engaged with the showcased exhibition and demonstrated the growing recognition of sustainable regenerative agricultural practices. ■
