Better Rice Initiative Asia – Promotion of Integrated Pest Management in Thailand
Our Goals
The project is to improve adoption of the IPM in rice through demonstration and training of smallholder farmers and training of pesticide retailers and pesticide service provider. This approach also covers soil fertility management as well as pest management.

Suphan Buri, Central Thailand
One of several threats faced by Thai rice farmers is losses in rice production due to pests (insects, weeds, diseases and rodents). Losses to pests can be very high, if uncontrolled. Plus, overuse of agricultural inputs resulting in reduced productivity and crop loss are also a waste of precious resources.
CropLife International joins as a private sector partner in BRIA II providing expertise and support for the Integrated Pest Management (IPM), a program that is based on prevention, monitoring, and control of pest situation in rice farming which aims to reduce the use of pesticides and to improve safe use of farmers in Central Thailand. Adoption of the IPM practices by farmers will help them achieve the pest management requirement for certification under the Sustainable Rice Platform (SRP) standard, which is aimed at promoting climate-smart practices for rice cultivation and will add value to their rice crop.
