Rules of Four Rights: Farmers in Viet Nam gain knowledge and skills to produce safe agriculture products

Mr. Phan Anh Tu is a trainer from Plant Protection Department, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Viet Nam. He trains the rice farmers in Dong Thap Province on the application of Integrated Pest Management (IPM).

One of the focuses is the ‘Rules of Four Rights’.

First is use the ‘right pesticide’ that farmers need to check what kind of pest appears in the crops before making a decision what kind of the right specialized pest management product to apply. Second is the ‘right time’ to see when the pests are at their most susceptible stage and the infestation is still at an early stage. Third is the ‘right dose and concentration’. And, forth is ‘do it right’ in terms of where to spray and spraying direction.

Mr. Anh Tu says pesticides should only be used when necessary and in a responsible manner.  Knowledge and skills received from the IPM training help farmers in Dong Thap Province to save money, boost yields and protect the environment.
